Today marked our final day in Mâcon, and we truly lived it to the fullest!
We began the morning by visiting a 6th grade class, where our students had the opportunity to answer many thoughtful and curious questions. It was a wonderful moment of exchange, highlighting how much confidence and connection they have built with all Ozanam community over the past few days.
Later, Sebastian and Aron, two BTS Tourisme students, and Sophie, the English teacher in charge of the travel program at Ozanam guided us through the city, taking us to the Office de Tourisme and to a very special local café,famous for being run by the parents of Antoine Griezmann! Needless to say, our soccer players and fans were absolutely in awe. We also enjoyed our now much-loved daily pause café which a ritual the students have fully embraced (and may be bringing back home with them!).
In the afternoon, we visited the Musée des Ursulines, where a guided tour brought Mâcon’s rich history to life. Students explored its prehistoric past, learned about the Gauls and Romans' habits and clothes, and discovered important figures such as Lamartine. They also admired early works by Monet, offering insight into pre-Impressionism, and even got a preview of works by Charles Le Brun, a perfect preparation before our upcoming visit to Versailles.
We then shared one last picnic at school with our French partners which was a meaningful and joyful moment to celebrate the friendships formed during this exchange.
Our day continued with a trip to the breathtaking Roche de Solutré. There, students explored an exhibition on archaeological excavations and prehistoric life in the region. We bravely climbed to the top in brisk but sunny weather, and were rewarded with a stunning panoramic view. In the distance, we could even see the snow-capped Mont Blanc, a truly unforgettable sight!
On our way back, we made a special stop for a fascinating presentation led by Edith, a science teacher, who brought prehistoric times to life. She introduced students to fossils and explained how the landscape and geological formations around us have evolved over millions of years. It was a captivating moment that connected perfectly with everything we had seen earlier in the day.
To end on a sweet note, we tasted calissons, a delicious specialty from the south of France made with almond paste and candied fruit. They were a big hit as our Poly students absolutely loved them!
Tonight marks our last evening with our host families, and we already know they have planned special surprises to make this farewell memorable.
Mâcon has given us so much: friendships, cultural discoveries, and unforgettable experiences.
Next stop: Paris… here we come!
Anna (and her amazing pictures!)
Aujourd’hui nous avons fait beaucoup d’activités! Nous nous sommes rencontrés à l’école et de 8 a 9 heures nous avons fait une présentation à la 6eme sur Poly.
