Chez le médecin chez moi

In these past few days, we had a few exchange participants who had to see the doctor.  Many were able to experience the unparalleled SOS Médecin or "house call."

I rarely get sick. In fact, I hadn't gotten sick this whole school year until, of course, France! Now you might be thinking, "pauvre Kate," but my experience was not half or even a third as bad as you would imagine, my being in Paris and all. I spent my Sunday, Monday , and part of Tuesday drinking loads of tea, listening to vinyl records of jazz and reggae, and reading (not too shabby, you see what I mean?). And while I missed out on some weekend free time and weekday tours, I had a my own Parisian experience: that of French health care. Not did my host family aid me with such generosity, but the doctor came chez moi, two times in two days! Back home, I wouldn't even go to the doctor if I had a fever, and they came to the house when I had a bad stomachache? C'est incroyable ! Preparing for any aspect of sickness, the doctors suggested several medicines, stressed the importance of drinking lots of fluids, and suggested what to eat with a sensitive stomach. Thanks to Mme. Diederich, I knew some of the vocabulary from Unite La Santé in French II. The time passed and I didn't watch a single bit of TV or Netflix (another shocker for any wounded American-- especially when the option was there). I don't know what had gotten into me (besides the virus), but I was a different person than when sick at home! It's safe to say that I'm better now and off to the next adventure for a final day in Paris tomorrow.
